About Sheriff
Artist Biography
This Canadian melodic rock quintet was formed in 1981 by Arnold Lanni (vocals, keyboards) and bass player Wolf Hassel (bass). With the addition of Freddy Curci (vocals), Steve De Marchi (guitar) and Rob Elliot (drums), they signed to Capitol Records and released a self-titled debut the following year. Their approach was characterized by grandiose, sweeping melodies that drew inspiration from Kansas, Foreigner and Styx, but with a smattering of their own ideas to authenticate the songs. The album failed to attract the media’s attention and the band members parted company. Lanni and Hassel later formed Frozen Ghost, while Curci and De Marchi teamed up in Alias. In 1988, quite unexpectedly, ‘When I’m With You’ from the debut Sherriff album became a number 1 US hit 5 years after it first charted (at number 61). The album was re-released and also did well; resulting in pressure to re-form Sherriff. Lanni and Hassel declined as they retained the rights to the name and wanted to continue with Frozen Ghost.
