Australian duo Air Supply is an iconic soft rock group whose majestic ballads dominated the charts in the early 1980s.
∙ Founding members Russell Hitchcock and Graham Russell first met in 1975, when both were performing in an Australian production of the musical Jesus Christ Superstar.
∙ The 1980 hits “Lost in Love” and “All Out of Love” kicked off a 3-year run of 7 straight Top 5 singles on the Billboard Hot 100, including their first chart-topper, “The One That You Love.”
∙ Their breakthrough 1980 full-length, Lost in Love, was the first of three straight Platinum albums, and 1983’s Greatest Hits LP has been certified quintuple-Platinum.
∙ Air Supply was invited to participate in Australia’s 1988 bicentennial celebration and performed for the visiting Prince Charles and Princess Diana, who were both fans of the group.
∙ One of the first foreign bands invited to perform in Cuba, they played (in high winds) for a crowd of 175,000 people in 2005—one day before Hurricane Dennis hit the island.
∙ The Australian Recording Industry Association inducted Air Supply into the ARIA Hall of Fame in 2013.
