Hard-Fi's optimistic urban energy is as informed by dance music as it is by their beloved punk rock. Their early-‘00s scuzzy pop has the social realism, guttersnipe scorn and deep reggae bass of The Clash (“Cash Machine,” ”Suburban Knights”), but it's played with the ecstatic lift and optimism of a good weekend at the clubs (“Hard To Beat,” “Living For the Weekend”). “Good for Nothing” is an instant hit of rock, played with an insistently Caribbean swing.
