In 2007, Christy Moore was voted Ireland's greatest living musician in RTÉ's People of the Year Awards. But it was in England that the County Kildare-born songwriter honed his trade, after the young clerk left his homeland following the bank strike of 1966 and discovered the Irish folk clubs across the water. Both solo and with his bands Planxty and The Moving Hearts, Moore has introduced five decades of music fans to the wonders of traditional Irish folk, but he's no docile patriot: his defiantly left-wing beliefs and rebel songs continue to rile the establishment to this day.
