Southern rock pioneers Lynyrd Skynyrd spent the ‘70s burning down the borders between rock ‘n' roll, country and blues. They not only launched classic rock anthems like the Dixie-boosting “Sweet Home Alabama” and the epic jam “Free Bird”; they also addressed gun control (“Saturday Night Special”), drug abuse (“That Smell”) and more, with Ronnie Van Zant's bluesy, brawny pipes and the triple-guitar onslaught of Ed King, Allen Collins and Gary Rossington leading the charge.
