A gripping conjurer of heady drones and throbs, New Zealand native Oliver Peryman emerged from his country's sound-system culture in the mid-'10s. He's explored the outer reaches of bass music as FIS, whether his approach is as subtle as the muted thumps of “DMT Usher” or as harsh as the menacing turbulence of “Womb Dreams”. Since relocating to Berlin, Peryman has answered the earthy textures of his early EPs with the shuddering widescreen saturation of subsequent albums. And on Clear Stones, his fascinating 2017 collaboration with Maori sound healer Rob Thorne, he organically reconciles his most soothing and scathing impulses.
