No discussion about early boy bands would be complete without an inclusion of New Edition and their offshoot Bell Biv DeVoe. New Edition's members Ricky Bell, Michael Bivins and Ronnie DeVoe capitalised on their first group's success while forging their own successful career as BBD and pioneering the new jack swing movement. Their debut Poison went four times platinum in the US and showcased a new and experimental take on R&B. While their later albums never reached the same success, they still tour and have reunited with New Edition on a few occasions.
