About Towering Inferno
Artist Biography
London-based performance art duo Towering Inferno was formed by musicians/filmmakers Richard Wolfson and Andy Saunders. The pair first met in the 1970s and played together in the experimental rock band Missing Morris. Towering Inferno's debut, KADDISH (1993), provoked considerable interest, as it explored the Holocaust through primarily instrumental improvised music; combining free jazz, experimental classical, and sampled dialogue from Adolf Hitler’s chilling speeches of the 1930s and '40s. Tragically, Wolfson was killed by a ruptured aortic aneurysm while the pair was working on the album's follow-up.
