Artist Biography
Cellist Timo-Veikko Valve divides his time between Finland and Australia, where he is the principal cellist of the Australian Chamber Orchestra. He performs on both modern and Baroque cellos. Valve won various prizes, including second place in the Eurovision Young Musicians Competition in 2000. Around the turn of the century, not yet 20 years old, he began his professional career, appearing with such groups as the Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra and the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra. Valve became the principal cellist of the Australian Chamber Orchestra in 2006, and he has often played solo parts with the group. He made his recording debut in 2008 on the album A Composer's Portrait: Christian Lindberg, Vol. 2, and he appeared on several Australian Chamber Orchestra albums. In 2024, Valve joined pianist Aura Go, releasing a cycle of Beethoven's cello sonatas that also included cello-and-piano works by Webern.
