About The Siegel-Schwall Band
Artist Biography
Formed in Chicago in 1964 by Corky Siegel and Jim Schwall, the Siegel-Schwall Band practiced an eloquent if low-key form of the blues, without the power and aggression of contemporaries such as the Paul Butterfield Blues Band. After signing with the RCA Records imprint Wooden Nickel, they released several well-received albums as well as the unique Three Pieces for Blues Band and Orchestra, in collaboration with the San Francisco Symphony Orchestra. After the dissolution of the band, in 1974 Siegel developed ideas for an alternative approach to the blues, blending the form with chamber music on Corky Siegel’s Chamber Blues (1994). The duo reunited from time to time, and Alligator Records recorded one of these occasions in 1988. They also reunited in 2005 for the charming Flash Forward. ~ Rovi Staff
