About The Adverts
Artist Biography
Though their existence was brief and overshadowed by more famous Brit punks, connoisseurs recognize the Adverts as one of the very best acts to come out of the first wave of English punk. They were right in the eye of the hurricane, supporting bands like Generation X, the Damned, and the Jam in trailblazing shows, and their two LPs did as much or more than anyone's to further punk’s ambitions. Sharp, controversial hits like “Gary Gilmore’s Eyes” established their reputation for intelligent, insightful songwriting (and a wicked sense of humor). Though they were finished by 1979, their legacy is assured.
