About Tellu
Artist Biography
An all-female group formed after fiddler/vocalist Tellu Virkkala (formerly Tellu Paulasto) left Swedish/Finnish ensemble Hedningarna in 1996, Tellu has continued to provide a musical platform for Virkkala's folk-rooted compositions, virtuosic fiddling, and multi-octave vocals. The group has enabled Virkkala to put her training and background to use. She spent six years studying Sami culture in the folk department of Sibelius Academy and a year studying Hardanger fiddle playing in Norway. Tellu's debut album, Suden Aika (Time of the Wolf), was released in 1998. ~ Craig Harris
