About Moira Anderson
Artist Biography
b. 5 June 1940, Kirkintilloch, Scotland. A popular singer with a beautiful soprano voice, Moira Anderson studied at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music, learning to play several instruments. While still in her teens, she had her first break in an Andy Stewart show at the Gaiety Theatre in Ayr, which lead to feature billing in the following Popplewell Gaiety winter production, and further work on the variety circuit. She reached a wider audience after appearing on the popular television programme The White Heather Club, beginning in 1960. Shortly afterwards she was given her own series, and also appeared in popular programmes such as Eric Robinson’s Melodies, at the London Palladium in Royal Variety Performances, and numerous other theatres throughout the land. Her recordings have consisted mainly of popular standards and light opera, notably those of Gilbert And Sullivan, but the songs of her homeland remain her real forte. Anderson has made regular appearances on religious programmes, and was awarded an OBE for her services to the music industry. In 1991 she appeared in Scotland in shows such as The Pride Of The Clyde, and the following year presentedMoira’s Music on BBC Radio 2, accompanied by the City of Glasgow Philharmonic Orchestra.
