About Julie Cruise
Artist Biography
Singer and actress Julee Cruise first rose to prominence when her song “Mysteries of Love” appeared in the David Lynch film BLUE VELVET. The song, a collaboration between Lynch, Cruise, and composer Angelo Badalamenti, proved so successful that the team worked on Cruise’s 1989 debut album FLOATING INTO THE NIGHT, a collection of atmospheric dream pop. The three worked together again for Lynch’s TWIN PEAKS soundtrack (Cruise also made a number of appearances on the television show), and again for her sophomore album, THE VOICE OF LOVE, which arrived in ’93. Meanwhile Cruise kept busy as a stage actress and performing vocalist, working with artists as diverse as Bobby McFerrin and the B-52s. THE ART OF BEING A GIRL was released in 2002. Although the album was her first without Lynch and Badalamenti, it still retained much of the eerie hypnotic quality for which Cruise is known.
