About James Atkinson
Artist Biography
Baritone James Atkinson won major prizes and notched prominent international appearances quite early in his career. By the time he graduated, Atkinson was already a seasoned performer whose credits included the role of Papageno in Mozart's Die Zauberflöte, among others. His debut recording came in 2022 when he joined the Tippett Quartet on the album Derek B. Scott: Six Song-Cycles for Baritone and Chamber Ensemble. Atkinson is in demand as a concert singer, performing Walton's Belshazzar's Feast, Haydn's Die Schöpfung, and Fauré's Requiem mass. In 2023, Atkinson appeared with several other singers on the thematic recital Homelands. That year, he was named a BBC Radio 3 New Generation Artist, which runs through 2025 and is a prestigious career development opportunity.
