About Grifters
Artist Biography
Ramshackle but bizarrely tuneful, the Grifters came together in the late 1980s (initially as a Band Called Bud) in Memphis, Tennessee, and their bluesy, noisy spin on college rock was appropriate for the steamy, southern environs of their hometown. The group consisted from the outset of Tripp Lamkins on bass, Dave Shouse on drums, Scott Taylor on guitar and vocals, and Stan Gallimore on drums. After first releasing independently produced singles on the Doink label, the group found a home on Shangri-La Records for grungy, almost lo-fi post-punk efforts like ONE SOCK MISSING and CRAPPIN’ YOU NEGATIVE. After signing to the Sub Pop Label for 1996’s AIN’T MY LOOKOUT, they began to polish their songcraft as well, and reached a wider audience in the process. While Shangri-La has continued to reissue Grifters material, the band's last formal full-length was 1997’s FULL BLOWN POSSESION.
