Artist Biography
American bluegrass band The SteelDrivers are known for infusing contemporary rock, soul, and blues into their traditional style.
∙ Formed in 2005 by Nashville session players—including vocalist, songwriter, and future country solo star Chris Stapleton—the group released their self-titled debut album in 2008.
∙ British pop star Adele covered their 2008 song “If It Hadn’t Been For Love” as a bonus track on the UK release of her 2011 album, 21.
∙ In 2009, the band was honored as New Artist of the Year by the International Bluegrass Music Association.
∙ With second lead singer Gary Nichols, The SteelDrivers won a Best Bluegrass Album Grammy Award for their 2015 LP, The Muscle Shoals Recordings.
∙ During a 2018 performance at the Grand Ole Opry, celebrity SteelDrivers fan Bill Murray sang John Prine’s “Paradise” alongside the country legend and the band.
∙ The group’s first album with new lead singer Kelvin Damrell, 2020’s Bad for You was their third in a row to top Billboard’s Bluegrass Albums chart.
