About Fernando Corona
Artist Biography
Fernando Corona is a singer and recording artist of Mexican regional music. He was runner-up on the debut season of Univision's reality music competition Va por Ti.
Corona was born in Mexico City as Carlos Fernando Aguilar Bowers. He began singing almost as soon as he could walk, according to his mother. When he was eight, his parents split. He later moved to the United States with his mother and stepfather as an undocumented immigrant -- something he has spoken of publicly.
He learned to play guitar at ten and began singing in church choirs and at local parties. He began to write his own songs as a teen. As a young adult, Corona pursued his musical dreams in earnest, playing wherever and whenever he could and eventually moved back to Mexico City. He claimed his biggest influence to be Pedro Fernández.
Univision announced Va por Ti in late 2013. Hosted by Galilea Montijo, first season judges were Alejandra Guzmán, Dulce María, and Jencarlos Canela. Corona entered the competition and survived the auditions, making the cut to appear in competition. He survived 14 rounds before being eliminated by winner Yazaira.
Consistently a fan favorite, Corona may not have won the prize of a recording contract, but he was signed to Warner Music Latina regardless. His first two video singles, "Llueve en Mi Cama" and "Digo Adios," garnered tens of thousands of views on YouTube and received radio play. His self-titled debut album was produced by Manuel Gonzalez and released in February of 2015. ~ Thom Jurek
