About Stephen Marley
Artist Biography
Stephen Marley is a Jamaican-American musician and producer, as well as the son of reggae pioneer Bob Marley.
∙ At age six, he debuted on “Children Playing in the Streets,” a 1979 charity single recorded with his siblings as The Melody Makers—later renamed Ziggy Marley & The Melody Makers.
∙ He produced the Gold-certified 1999 hip-hop album Chant Down Babylon, a collection of Bob Marley classics remixed with new features from Erykah Badu, Lauryn Hill, and The Roots.
∙ In 2007, he stepped into the spotlight with his first album, Mind Control, which featured the hit Mos Def collaboration “Hey Baby.”
∙ Marley appeared as himself in a 2018 episode of the superhero TV series Luke Cage, performing his songs “Chase Dem” and “You’re Gonna Leave.”
∙ All four of his studio albums have reached No. 1 on Billboard’s Reggae Albums chart.
∙ He’s won the Grammy Award for Best Reggae Album eight times—three as a solo artist, three as a member of Ziggy Marley & The Melody Makers, and twice for producing his brother Damian.
