About Betty Boo
Artist Biography
Perky, self-styled U.K. pop-rapper Betty Boo had her first brush with the charts at the tail-end of the '80s with an appearance on the Beatmasters' Top Ten song "Hey DJ I Can't Dance (To That Music You're Playing)." She quickly hit the U.K. Top Ten on her own, reaching a career-high number three with 1990's "Where Are You Baby?," a typically playful, club-friendly outing from her debut album, the platinum-selling Boomania. An abrupt tour cancellation stemming from the revelation that she was lip-syncing on-stage preceded her second album, 1992's Grrr! It's Betty Boo, which stalled at number 62 despite featuring the Top 20 single "Let Me Take You There." Boo didn't resurface until the mid-2000s on collaborations with Blur's Alex James and production duo Jack Rokka, then continued to appear only sporadically until releasing her empowering third album, Boomerang, in 2022. Buoyed by its success, Boo issued her fourth album, Rip Up the Rulebook, two years later.
