Calvin Harris is one of the UK’s most prolific—and successful—DJs and producers. Since the mid 2010s, he’s been splitting his attention between his disco-influenced Funk Wav Bounces albums and the more electronic-leaning Love Regenerator project, alongside a constant stream of the dance-pop hits he is best known for. Arriving in August 2024, 96 Months collects 15 of those singles together in one place: eight years worth of Harris-produced chart-toppers and his own anthemic floor-fillers—plus two more recent cuts with returning collaborators Ellie Goulding and Rag’n’Bone Man. With the speed and intensity at which trends in music can shift and evolve over the better part of 10 years, it’s a testament to Harris’ timeless ear that 96 Months (a “greatest hits” by any other name) plays more like an album of fresh material than a catalogue retrospective. Indeed, the earliest releases included here—“How Deep Is Your Love” the ubiquitous 2015 teamup with Disciples and 2016’s equally omnipresent “This Is What You Came For”, a Taylor Swift co-write with a lead vocal from Rihanna—still sound just as commanding and au courant as the newer material these tracks sit alongside. So too, does the 2019 rework of “I’m Not Alone”, which beefs up the thumping dance beat to surpass even the stratosphere-busting levels of the original mix. Elsewhere, “Nuh Ready Nuh Ready”, a pulsing, dancehall-flavoured rhythm captained by Canadian R&B star PARTYNEXTDOOR showcases Harris’ versatility, while the back-to-back knockout of “One Kiss” featuring Dua Lipa and “Promises” with Sam Smith illustrates why the biggest artists in the world turn to the Scottish hitmaker when they’re looking to make a splash. Though it may not offer anything fans of Harris won’t have heard before, 96 Months provides an excellent excuse to spin the classics all over again.
