Bizet’s “Au fond du temple saint” is a triumphant, warm-hearted opener reaffirming friendship, which sets the tone as the pair go on to discuss a love potion (“L’elisir d’amore”), comfort each other in affairs of the heart (Don Pasquale) and sign a pact with the devil (Mefistofele). Both singers’ vivid acting is a joy to hear, and the orchestral support is superb.
