There's madness at the heart of New York band Lucius' second studio album: songwriters Jess Wolfe and Holly Laessig find themselves both fearing its influence (“My Heart Got Caught on Your Sleeve”) and willing it on (“Almost Makes Me Wish for Rain”). Musically, Good Grief is equally torn between impulses: there's arpeggiated '80s pop (“Something About You), severe synths (“Born Again Teen”), and Laurel Canyon folk (“Dusty Trails”), but Wolfe and Laessig's vocal harmonies are the looping golden thread that tie everything together: whether taking athletic leaps or forging moving ballads, they sound utterly fearless.
